Hello! I’m here to say that I’ve read every word of your post and found this blog because I was googling for analysis of Mary Oliver’s Blue Iris, specifically the lines “And my heart panics not to be, as I long to be, the empty, waiting, pure, speechless receptacle.” And you’re right, I really have a hard time to finding proper analysis or explainers… I still haven’t found a proper one. I’m quite new to Mary Oliver. Thank you for sharing the interview link!
The first Mary Oliver poem to grab me was “The Summer Day”. The way she was able to bring so much notice and beauty to the grasshopper that jumped into her hand. She really knew how to observe life and to share the details of what she saw in the beauty of her poems. Thank you for stopping by.
